Why I Am A Good Voiceover Artist

July 6, 2010

Ever since I was a kid people have told me I had a “great voice”. I’ll admit it was their compliments that inspired me to endeavor on a career in radio and it was their encouragement that gave me confidence to start working outside of the station as a voice over artist.

One thing I’ve learned over the past several years is that it takes more than a pretty voice, a region neutral accent and other people believing in you to succeed. I had to believe in myself and trust those around me.

I didn’t possess all these qualities at first but over time, effort, failure and success I learned to take someone else’s words (the script) and make them my own. To be honest, this has more to do with acting and timing than voice quality. With training this skill can be learned. But that still isn’t enough.

Starting out I had to know what I didn’t know. Sometimes that process is harder to go through than others. Once I let my ego go, I really enjoyed the challenge of meeting the expectation of a client. I take a lot of pride in what I do and I love what I do.

Thanks to a combination of desire, preparation, training and persistence I could voice your next project.

Feeling Lucky!!!

April 26, 2008

Pretty much every Saturday morning you can find my wife and I at our local library and one of our favorite coffee house.

We are LUCKY to be able to take this time. A lot of people live lives that are far to demanding to be able to stop and appreciate their partner, spouse, friends, loved ones.

We are LUCKY to live in a city that boasts and absolutely FANTASTIC library system and some pretty good coffee houses.

Today, as LUCK would have it we landed at Crema Cafe in Grove City, OH where they had roasted in house the Jamaica Blue Mountain. WHAT A TREAT!

At the library I checked out a book by Phil Rosenthal called “You’re Lucky You’re Funny: How Life Becomes a Sitcom”. Rosenthal was the creator and executive producer of Everybody Loves Raymond.

So, today, I am feeling pretty darn lucky!

I would be grateful for your consideration on your next voice project, it could be a message for your phone system, website, radio commercial, tv commercial, training seminar, webinar, animation, podcast, etc. Let your imagination go crazy!

New Blog

April 24, 2008

I elected to also start a blog on Blogger.com to see which one is more effective in reaching potential clients for my voice work.

I’ll admit that I like the back end functions of WordPress a lot better but the ease of use and the variety of tools available through Blogger are UNBELIEVABLE and serve my needs for what I want my blog to do a bit better.

Auditions and Gigs!

April 24, 2008

I just auditioned to be the voice of a major department store in the North-East United States. If it pans out it will be a fairly significant piece of business, as I would be the voice for the stores Internet, Radio, TV and Messages On Hold. All of which would be updated twice a month.

I am hopeful it pans out but if not, what an honor to be considered for such an extensive project that would so deeply brand a business.

I used to think it was strange when someone would say “It’s just an honor to be nominated…” on award shows or wherever else, but the truth of the matter is that there are thousands of great voices in this industry and to be one of 3-5 considered for a project REALLY is a HUGE HONOR and not one I take for granted.

So here I am keeping my fingers crossed that the agency contacts me and says “You’re the new voice for…..” that would build my monthly retainer roster to Five clients. For the other clients my voice is used on their Radio and TV commercials, messages on hold and Internet marketing pieces as well.

I would be grateful for your consideration on your next voice project, it could be a message for your phone system, website, radio commercial, tv commercial, training seminar, webinar, animation, podcast, etc. Let your imagination go crazy!

Me and Twitter

April 16, 2008

Today has been fun and productive. I recorded some spots for a new client (auto dealership) and updated some content for another client (national home improvement store) for their website, on hold messages and also a really cool new in store automated help center.

I also signed up for Twitter account…not really sure how it works…but here goes, eh? But if you are on twitter, follow me!
